La Hütte Royal
Thorsten Brinkmann reflects on contemporary society through playful and ironic juxtapositions of everyday objects, detritus, and references to art history. Brinkmann studied visual communication at the Kunsthochschule Kassel from 1994 to 1997 and continued his training at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts, where he was a student of the photo-based artist Bernhard Blume and sculptor Franz Erhard Walther. The influence of both teachers can be seen in installations, photographs, and videos incorporating performative aspects and mocking the traditional art canon. Brinkmann has exhibited in group shows at institutions across Europe and the U.S., including the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the Andy Warhol Museum. His works have been featured in exhibitions such as the 2009 Triennial of Photography and Video at the International Center of Photography and the 2014 Mediations Biennale at the National Museum in Poznań.
